Abstract: The Multi-Band Metamaterial Absorber (MBMMA) consists of a Single-Ring-Multi-Cuts (SRMC)-shaped resonator printed on an FR4 dielectric layer backed by a copper ground plane. The proposed absorber demonstrates high-absorption rates at multiple frequencies, specifically at 9.23, 10.33, 11.12, 12.69, 15.75, 17.38, and 18.55 GHz, making it suitable for six-band absorption applications. The mechanism behind the absorption is analysed using electric-field distribution and current distributions. Geometric parameters of the MBMMA are optimised using the ant colony optimisation algorithm (ACOA), which differs from previous empirical and time-consuming parameter sweep methods. The proposed absorber is also influenced by changes in polarisation angles under normal incidence. Its easy manufacturing and potential extension to other frequencies facilitate for applications in biosensors, monitoring, and imaging. MBMMA holds significant promise in various microwave band research areas, including energy harvesting, radar cross-section reduction, and sensor applications, with a specific focus on X band and Ku band frequencies for multi-band utilisation.
