Abstract: The internet of vehicles (IoV) has become an important area of research due to its potential applications in smart transportation systems. With the use of blockchain ledger technology, IoV networks can be made secure, private, and trustworthy. This survey paper examines recent research on the application of blockchain in IoV, focusing on properties such as authentication, sharing, trust management, security, privacy preservation, and integrated and miscellaneous applications. The challenges faced in implementing blockchain in IoV are also discussed along with recommendations for future research directions. This paper aims to provide insights into the benefits and challenges of using blockchain technology in IoV for the betterment of smart transportation systems.
