Abstract: Wireless medical sensor network (WMSN) plays a substantial role in modifying the current healthcare system. Given the public nature of the communication medium being in use and the deployment of the sensor nodes in the outside world, it can lead to multiple threats. Mutual authentication is the first step towards maintaining the privacy of the patient's data and identity. This paper proposes an authentication model using challenge-response pair generated by XOR arbiter physical unclonable function. The use of a PUF-based session key also eliminates the need to store any public key in the device, making the proposed model more reliable. Later sections of the paper include a comparative study between the existing approaches and the proposed model and prove the efficiency of the proposed model. The real-or-random, RoR model is used for security verification and the Scyther tool is chosen for simulating the proposed protocol indicating its security and reliability.
