Abstract: Purpose: Smart cities are integrated, participatory, and multidimensional urban environments based on sustainable development that challenges future cities. Thus, our research aims to identify how smart cities can drive sustainable development goals (SDGs) achievement in Brazil through a qualitative methodology. We performed a systematic literature review, content analysis, and case study to provide a method of triangulation. Our sample was composed of 50 papers, of which 13 were reviews and 37 were empirical studies. To comprehend the Brazilian understanding of the SDGs, we analysed a national report and linked it to smart city dimensions. Also, we suggested a research agenda on the topic based on technology, sustainability, and community and this study's limitations.

Keywords: smart city; SDG; sustainable development goals; systematic literature review; content analysis; Brazil.
