Abstract: According to a 2001 survey made by ISTAT, masonry buildings represent the 61.5% of the of Italian's building heritage. The adoption of monitoring's systems on buildings allows to analyse the variations of structural parameters allowing the detection of damages. Detect-ageing is a PRIN promoted by MIUR and involves four Italian universities. The main purpose of the project is to develop a new analytical-instrumental approach aimed at the quantitative assessment of the effects of aging and material degradation on structural safety of cultural heritage, with particular reference to masonry structures. The research unit of Bologna, built a real scale mock-up of a two-storey masonry building equipped with a hybrid SHM system managed by the University of Perugia. The present paper illustrates the main features of the case study and presents the first results of the experimental campaign.

Keywords: structural health monitoring; SHM; masonry structures; modal analysis; damage detection; degradation.
