Abstract: The environment-strategy-performance (ESP) relationship was assessed using a sample of 378 firms, 189 from the United States (U.S.) and 189 from the United Kingdom (U.K.). Using structural equation modeling techniques, we found that the relationships within the ESP model for both countries to be consistent with findings of previous research studies. However, results of the present study suggest that the ESP relationship is distinctly different when it is examined within the context of U.K. and U.S. national markets. Specifically, results suggest that the strength of the relationships within the ESP paradigm is much stronger for U.S. firms than for U.K. firms.
Keywords: Environment-strategy-performance; structural equation modeling; national markets.
