Abstract: With the development of smart healthcare, various sensors are invented and exploited to constantly monitor the conditions of patients and environments in hospitals. Wireless power transfer (WPT) is a promising technique to provide energy to sensors. We propose a WPT-based non-orthogonal cooperative transmission scheme for the data collection in hospitals. In the serving cell of each access point (AP), one energy harvesting (EH) node and one energy-sufficient (ES) node transmit data simultaneously by using the same spectrum, which is fully reused across all the cells. In order to improve the energy and data transmission efficiency, a power beacon is used to wirelessly charge the EH-node and help it forward data to the AP. Through properly modelling the energy statuses of nodes and the aggregate interference, we analyse the network area throughput. Extensive simulations are conducted to reveal the impacts of various parameters to the system performance.
