Abstract: The genuine propagation and resonant mechanisms occurring in the periodic environment of a two-dimensional photonic crystal allow to design very compact integrated photonic circuits. Moreover, some specific optical functions become possible, such as slow light, tailored mirror reflectivity or resonant modes. We present here some typical optical devices implementing 2D Photonic Crystals (PhC), both for passive as well as active optical functions. Finally, we propose some specific applications in the domain of quantum optics.
