Abstract: Submerged Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) applications for wastewater treatment have taken off in recent years in New Zealand. From designer perspectives, the membrane modules replace the conventional secondary clarifier, thus eliminating solids settling issues and reducing plant footprint. This paper discusses the recent experiences of Harrison Grierson Consultants Limited designing and commissioning several municipal MBR plants.
Keywords: MBR design; submerged membrane bioreactors; wastewater treatment; New Zealand.
