Abstract: Carbon nanotubes have been of great interest, both from a fundamental point of view and for future application. The most eye catching features of these structures are their mechanical, optical and chemical characteristics. For commercial applications, large quantities of purified nanotubes are needed. Carbon nanotubes of different types can be produced in various ways. The most advanced form of technique is plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD). Fundamental and practical nanotube researches have shown possible application in the fields of energy storage, molecular electronics, nanomechanic devices and composite materials. The carbon nanotube is mixed in a specific ratio with the lubricant. The changes of certain properties are used to enhance the surface finish of the D2 tool steel by surface grinding process. The surface roughness were tested through TR200 surface roughness meter and atomic force microscope (AFM). The surface roughness is to be improved to nanolevel by using carbon nanotube.
