Abstract: The paper discusses the relationship between productivity and quality in a performance measurement and management context. The important input of knowledge to the business process must be continuously nurtured through appropriate education and training. Productivity improvement is shown to be linked to technological advance and to knowledge and resources. The progress from benchmarking to bench-learning in productivity and quality management is expounded. Recommendations are given for the development of intellectual assets in the pursuit of increased efficiency of operations and creating value to the customer.
