Title: Common training architecture: technical standards in systems for learning

Abstract: This paper provides an outline (for detailed description see Reference 1) of the Common Training Architecture (CTA), developed as part of the European Commission|s DELTA Program. Section 1 describes the objectives and origins of the CTA. Section 2 provides a brief overview of the architectural approach taken by CTA. Section 3 gives examples of the application of the approach, and Section 4 summarises the benefits to be gained from adopting standards-based open systems in technology-supported education and training.
