Abstract: The structure and mechanical properties of VT6 and VT23 titanium alloys after the laser treatment and alloying with carbon have been studied. The sequence of phase transformations under laser heating is determined by the use of structural and X-ray data. It has been shown that an improvement of the wear resistance of this alloys without significant degradation of other mechanical properties can be reached by 20-25µm thickness carbide coating.
