Abstract: We study a five-factor performance model based on an integrated motivation framework and create an application tool to improve managers| motivation capabilities and to obtain the potential of technical personnel. We conduct an experiment with 104 technical personnel in a Japanese automotive company with the collaboration of 15 managers. As a result, the managers can effectively understand their subordinates| performance in business situations and they can have constructive discussions with them at interviews using our tool based on the five-factor model. The implications for leadership research are also considered and our findings should contribute to managers achieving individualised considerations, which are important for transformational leadership.
