Abstract: In an electromagnetic suspension system of a magnetic levitation vehicle, a single electromagnet with two control voltages (inputs) is the smallest electromechanical unit providing for a suspension force. In this paper, a non-linear controller using a feedback linearisation technique is developed on the basis of a non-linear model for such a suspension unit. The state feedback control law requires an observer, and a high-gain observer is proposed. The resulting observer-controller performance is illustrated using a simulation study.
