Abstract: Data mining has become a need of the modern day business analytics. The inclusion of data mining in combination with virtual reality has proved to be revolutionary. Virtual reality has been used in exploratory data analysis and the knowledge discovery phases of the data mining process to gain useful insight into the data at hand as it is able to provide key characteristics like flexibility, immersion, and interaction which have helped collaboration with data mining for fruitful results. Considering the above facts, the authors were motivated to carry out an extensive survey, classifying the literature dealing with the synchronous application of data mining and virtual reality according to various topics by proposing a classification framework which identified the contribution of data mining in virtual reality and vice-versa. This framework which encompasses wide application areas will make way for further quality research in this domain and help the researchers to be motivated and work for finding useful application with these two important and emerging technological advancements.
Keywords: virtual reality; data mining; clustering; classification; literature review.
