Abstract: This paper presents the need for a simple bench test to assess the susceptibility of electronic based automotive components. Also discussed is the requirement for comparative EMC testing at the design stage to assist development of cost effective products. A simple bench test is described which utilises current injection techniques developed by the aerospace industries. Recently developed injection probes are used which are ideally suited to the automotive environment. The techniques involved allow a more interactive approach to EMC problems at an early stage in the design process. Any subsequent customer problems can be responded to rapidly by reference to the previous bench test results and |who does what| disputes avoided.
