Abstract: Computational fluid dynamics has reached a state of the art in which a good agreement between numerical results and corresponding experimental data has been achieved. The results of numerical calculations can be used for a preliminary optimisation of a ship|s hull. Furthermore, they yield additional detailed information. The achievable accuracy is still not sufficient for a quantitative prediction of power consumption.
