Abstract: The present study tested how environmental dimensions can have effect of entrepreneurial commitment through its impact on entrepreneurial alertness, as moderated by entrepreneurial self-efficacy. Data were collected from 26 SMEs in Malang at start-up phase. The general structured component analysis (GSCA) was used to overcome disadvantages of small samples. The results indicated that only environmental complexity and entrepreneurial self-efficacy affect on entrepreneurial alertness. The effect of environmental complexity was greater than entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The study also found that entrepreneurial self-efficacy is not as moderator, but the predictor of the relationship between environmental complexity and entrepreneurial alertness. Entrepreneurial alertness affects entrepreneurial commitment, but in opposite direction.
