Abstract: Brake performance remains a topic of ongoing research despite much progress being made especially in the last decade. Many of the feasible mechanisms are far from being fully improved. In this work, a new adaptive wedge disc brake mechanism is designed and constructed to increase the brake performance. The effect of wedge inclination angle on the disc brake performance is investigated under different operation parameters using brake dynamometer. The experimental results indicated that the brake force generally fluctuates as a function of braking time due to the friction coefficient behaviour. The wedge inclination angle has a significant effect on improving the brake force. It is also observed that as the wedge inclination angle decreases the self-amplification action of the brake system increases and the brake force improves.
