Special Issue on: "Smart Homes: Technologies and Applications"

Smart homes are environments that integrate various information and communication technologies in order to enhance the comfort of their occupants and the delivery of a multitude of services in a non-intrusive manner. The wide spectrum of applications and services of smart homes includes monitoring and control, systems automation, ambient optimisation, telemedicine and healthcare. The concept of smart homes is getting closer to being achieved due to advances in intelligent wireless sensors, pervasive and ubiquitous computing, mobile communications, embedded systems and other supporting technologies. However, major technological and social challenges remain to be over come in order to integrate those technologies and software applications in ways that make them blend to the home environment and hence become easily accessible by the user.

The aim of this special issue is to present a collection of high quality papers that report on the research advances being made in all aspects of smart home technologies and applications.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere
