Language acquisition (or language learning), undoubtedly, serves as one of the most fundamental processes for people to foster a meaningful understanding of the world around them and further enable them to interact with the world. With technological development, various mobile systems and tools have been developed to assist people with their language acquisition. For instance, Duolingo is a representative among these systems and tools, which has helped tens of millions of people worldwide to learn languages including English, Chinese, French, Portuguese, etc.
It should be noted that the widespread use of these systems and tools not only facilitates people to learn different languages but also enables researchers to collect an unprecedented amount of learning data generated by these language-learning students during their learning process. However, there is still a large gap in analysing such collected data and further developing techniques to better support people to learn languages.
Therefore, this special issue aims to explore potential research efforts in this regard to support intelligent language acquisition in the mobile era.
The Guest Editors will be inviting substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at the International Conference on Education and Artificial Intelligence (ICEAI 2020) for review and potential publication, but are also inviting other experts to submit articles for this call.
