Prof. Maneesh Singh, Western Norway Institute of Applied Sciences, Norway

The integration of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) with Industrial Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a powerful force that is driving growth and innovation in modern industry. This special edition aims to investigate the significant influence of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Industrial Artificial Intelligence (AI) on different aspects of corporate operations, including manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, energy, and more. By focusing on enterprise applications, we seek to explore how CPS and Industrial AI are reshaping business models, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving strategic decision-making in today's competitive landscape. From smart factories optimising production processes to AI-driven supply chain management systems improving logistics, the intersection of CPS and Industrial AI holds immense promise for enterprises seeking to stay ahead in an increasingly digitised world. Through insightful research and case studies, we aim to illuminate the transformative potential of CPS and Industrial AI for enterprises of all sizes and sectors, providing valuable insights and best practices for leveraging these technologies to achieve sustainable growth and competitive advantage.

The interaction between the digital and physical domains, best shown by Cyber Physical Systems, is at the core of this problem. Real-time monitoring, control, and optimisation of industrial processes are made possible by CPS's seamless integration of computational algorithms and physical components. CPS symbolises the interconnection that characterises the modern industrial landscape, whether it be through the use of IoT sensors in smart factories for predictive maintenance or by autonomous cars revolutionising supply chain logistics.

The emerging field of Industrial AI, which gives businesses access to advanced analytics, machine learning, and cognitive capabilities, complements CPS. Industrial artificial intelligence (AI) supports human decision-making, increases productivity, and opens up new business opportunities. Examples of this include machine vision improving quality control and predictive analytics strengthening demand forecasting. Furthermore, by means of ongoing education and adjustment, Industrial AI helps businesses remain flexible and quick to react to changing market circumstances.

This special issue explores the complex ways that Industrial AI and CPS might support business expansion in a variety of industries. In this quickly developing field, we welcome submissions that examine theoretical frameworks, real-world applications, case studies, and developing trends.

We aim to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, showcase cutting-edge research, and provide insights into the transformative potential of Cyber Physical Systems and Industrial AI for enterprise growth. By sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions, we aspire to catalye the next wave of industrial revolution and empower enterprises to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and intelligent world.

The Guest Editors will be inviting substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at the the Unified International Conference on Emerging Technologies in Cyber-Physical Systems and Industrial AI (UNIfied-2024) and the 9th International Conference on Soft Computing: Theories and Applications (SoCTA-24), for review and potential publication, but are also inviting other experts to submit articles for this call.
