Abstract/Summary: This paper proposes a product data model for integrating Product Data Management (PDM) and Software Configuration Management (SCM). The proposed product data model extends an existing data model for PDM to support version items for SCM. It supports both PDM and SCM functions and integrates hardware and software parts in product configuration management and engineering changes. The product data model is implemented by using a commercial Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. The implementation enables hardware and software engineers to share the same user environment on the same database during the product development.
