Abstract/Summary: In order to reduce the time and manufacturing cost to develop a product, associativity between the product model and process model is important. Associativity here implies the propagation of change in the product model to the process model. In this paper, the process considered is assembly, as assembly is responsible for a significant part of manufacturing time and cost in most industrial products. Changes in the product model may be at level of geometry of parts in the assembly or at the level of liaisons such as types of connection between the parts. Linking the changes in the product model to flag the changes (or at least identify the need for changes) in the process model forms the associativity problem. The work described here is perhaps the first attempt to integrate product and process models with the objective of achieving associativity between them. Outer casing of Boiler has been used as an example to illustrate the proposed approach.
