Abstract/Summary: Automobile manufacturer are facing different challenges nowadays. They have to aim a cost-efficient and function-flexible production. Besides a reduction of production time is desirable. To achieve this target and to match the altered condition, main processes in the product emergence process have to be trimmed. One of these processes, the change management, has a significant role at this juncture because it is in the position to set free design capacity due to prevention of very late engineering changes. Prerequisite to avoid those late changes is cooperation between product development and production planning. In the project 'Product development-specific change management based on PDM-technology as mediator between the divisions of product development and production planning', possibilities for the bi-directional interaction between PDM system and authoring software are going to be examined in order to improve the cooperation between product development and production planning by enforcing frontloading in early stages of the product design.
