Abstract/Summary: In this paper an approach for the optimization of product planning and decision situations (PD situations) of product management is introduced. The approach exploits analogies between different planning and decision processes (PD processes) to create process patterns (PD pattern). These PD patterns can be represented in a planning and decision model (PD model) in next generation Product Lifecycle Management solutions (PLM solutions). By this it becomes possible to reuse the PD model for preparing PD situations. Furthermore decision makers can save time as the information base in certain PD situations can be provided in analogy to the model. PD processes must not be "reinvented" time after time. The paper also introduces an approach for the acquisition of information that is necessary for the design of PD patterns. The approach is based on existing product management methods.
