Abstract/Summary: This paper addresses the issue of IT-support for Engineering Change Management (ECM). ECM is a cross-functional process that requires time, resource and knowledge from different technology domains and product lifecycle domains. In order to provide a better support for ECM a demonstrator was developed at a large diesel engine manufacturer. The demonstrator applies a service oriented PLM architecture, utilizing the standard PLM Services 2.0, to provide access to information stored in the variety of systems encountered in any company. The accessed information is then used either directly by the user or provided as input to (KBE) applications which simulate and analyze the impact of an engineering change (EC). It is concluded that SOA is an efficient architecture that enables integration of KBE applications to perform real time analysis to changes as they are implemented.
