Abstract/Summary: This publication discusses the integration of the conceptual design and the end-of-life stages in the management of a product. This is done by pointing out the influences of the end-of-life of a product on the cost of a product and investigating links between these two stages. Then, both stages and their interrelations are examined for possible needs in terms of their management. This knowledge is then used to evaluate the status quo of product life-cycle management. In particular, the gap between the "as-is" and "should be" functionality of PLM solutions with respect to these two stages is examined for two most popular PLM solutions.
