Abdullah Alhamaq is the Executive Director of Qatar Diabetes Association, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. He is a Member of American Diabetes Association. He was an expert in Public Health Affairs at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture. Currently, he is involved in training food inspectors as well as health educators. He participates in research activities with Hamad Medical Corporation in the field of diabetes. Currently, he is involved in conducting the second National Survey of Diabetes in Qatar.

Adli Abouzeedan has a PhD in Business Administration from Washington International University, USA and an MSc in Chemical Engineering from Sweden. He is a Researcher with keen interest in diverse subjects related to strategic management. His research topics include entrepreneurship theory, firm performance and firm growth; sustainable development and firm management, the role of Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the entrepreneurial economy; firm internationalisation and born-global enterprises; innovativeness and the entrepreneurial environment of societies; information technology; e-globalisation, and managing organisations and firms in the new economy; internetisation management: theory, techniques and tools; and diversity management and multiculturalism in modern organisations. He has already published more than 50 papers, working papers and book chapters. He works as a Consultant through his firm, Amana Commercial Consultants, based at Gothenburg, Sweden.

Ali Asadi is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Extension, who holds a PhD from the University of Tehran, Iran. At present, he is a Member of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Development of the University of Tehran. He has published over 30 papers and some books. His main research areas are: agricultural extension, project evaluation and environmental management.

Ali Elkamel is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo, he served at Purdue University, Procter and Gamble, Kuwait University and the University of Wisconsin. His research has focused on the applications of systems engineering and optimisation techniques to planning and scheduling of process operations and to pollution problems and sustainable development.

Ali Shamsavari obtained MA and PhD in Economics from Vanderbilt University (USA). He has held numerous teaching, research or consultancy positions in the USA, Iran, Brazil and the UK. At present, he is a Senior Lecturer at Kingston University. His publications include Dialectics and Social Theory: The Logic of Capital (Merlin Books, 1991) and various papers on foreign direct investment, globalisation, technology transfer and economic development.

Alper Baba received his PhD from Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir and is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Geological Engineering at Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University. His research area is environmental geology, focusing on the contamination of water and soil, waste disposal sites, etc.

Amer Al-Roubaie is a Professor of Economics. He is the Dean of the College of Business and Finance at Ahlia University, the Kingdom of Bahrain. He holds a PhD in Economics from McGill University at Montreal, Canada. He taught several courses in Economics, Banking and Finance. He has written and published over 40 articles and wrote a book on globalisation.

Asiye Bassari received her PhD from Istanbul University in Istanbul and is now experimenting in Çekmece Nuclear Research and Training Center, Ýstanbul. Her research area is nuclear physics, focusing on the radionuclide in soil and water.

Cheng Seong Khor is currently on study leave from a teaching position in the PETRONAS University of Technology, the academic institution set up by the Malaysian state-owned national oil corporation, to pursue his graduate studies at the University of Waterloo. His thesis research concerns the theory and application of the optimisation approach to Process Systems Engineering (PSE) with particular interest to the hydrocarbon industry. He obtained his Bachelors in Chemical Engineering (Honours) degree from the National University of Malaysia.

Elfadil E. Babiker is a Professor of Food Quality in the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Khartoum, Sudan. His areas of teaching and research specialisation are nutritional evaluation of conventional and non-conventional foods and quality (safety) evaluation of fresh and cooked foods. He holds a BSc in Biochemistry and Food Science and an MSc in Food Science (food antinutrients). He obtained a PhD in Genetic Engineering (chemical and genetic modification of allergenic proteins) in 1999 from Yamaguchi University, Japan. He published more than 70 scientific papers in international journals and two books. He was awarded a gold medal as a best researcher from the graduate college, Tottori University, Japan and a fellowship from Japan society for the promotion of science. From 2003–date, he was the Head of the Department at the University of Khartoum. He is an active member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of many international scientific journals and reviewer of many international journals in the area of Food Safety, Nutrition and Food Technology.

F. Serap Erees received her PhD from Ege University in Izmir and is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at Celal Bayar University, Arts and Sciences Faculty. Her research area is nuclear physics, focusing on the radionuclide in soil and water.

Félix Hernández works at the Economics and Geography Institute, which belongs to the National Research Council of Spain. He is also the Spanish representative in the Intergovernment Panel of Climate Change (IPCC). He is a renowned expert in topics related to renewable energy and climate change. His current research interests focus on the interaction between the different instruments to reduce Greenhose Gas emissions. He has been involved in several EU and national projects and has published his work in international journals.

Feride Doganer Gonel received her BA in Economics from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, an MA in Economics from Bogazici University and a PhD in Economics from Istanbul University, Visiting Fellow in Seoul National University). Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Economics at Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul. She is working on international trade, environmental economics and sustainable development. She has published articles on political economy of Turkey, sustainable energy and international trade. Her article (with S. Kalaycioglu) on ‘The role of business in environmental poicy-making’ appeared in Environmentalism in Turkey. Between Democracy and Development? (edited by F. Adaman and M. Arsel) published by Ashgate (2005). She has co-authored The Far East Asian Economies Course Notes (published by YTU, 1998).

George M. Ayoub is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, American University of Beirut. He obtained his graduate degrees (DIC, PhD) in Environmental Engineering from Imperial College of Science and Technology and Medicine, London University. He presided for many years as Chairman of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and as Associate Dean of the Faculty. His professional career spans over 40 years during which he was engaged in academic, research and consulting activities. His field of practice is in water and wastewater engineering, covering both networks and treatment. He is a Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and also a Member of other professional, local and international societies.

Ghada El Hefnawy holds a PhD in Economics. She is a Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Economics Department, Cairo University, Egypt. She has substantial experience of research and teaching in economic development and agricultural economics. Her main field of interest is rural development, water resources management, economic development, human development, poverty and gender in developing countries and particularly in Egypt. She wrote several articles about the role of the state in income distribution in the rural sector, social capital and rural development, WTO and international trade in water and women’s entrepreneurship as an untapped potential for development in Egypt.

Hamid Movahed Mohammadi is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Education who holds a PhD in Agricultural Education from University of Tehran, Iran. At present, he is a Member of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Development of the University of Tehran. He has published over 20 papers and some text books. His main research areas are as follows: ICTs in agricultural education.

Hasan G. Özdilek received his PhD from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester in USA and is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University. His research areas are air, soil and water.

Hossein Shabanali Fami is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Extension who holds a PhD in Agricultural Extension from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, India. He is a Member of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Development of the University of Tehran. He has published over 70 papers and some books. His main research areas are as follows: ICTs and information management in agricultural and rural development.

Houri Kalinian is a graduate student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. She is working for her Master of Science degree in Environmental Technology.

Ihab Tewfik is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the School of Biosciences, University of Westminster. Besides his biochemistry background, he holds Master and Doctorate in Public Health-Nutrition from University of Alexandria in addition to PhD from London South Bank University. He has led two FSA projects and has worked as International Consultant for UNICEF and BC. As Registered Public Health Nutritionist, his current research interest is body fat and its relationship with metabolic syndrome indicators in overweight during childhood and adolescent stages. He has also an interest in food safety, security, nutrition in emergency and technology transfer to developing countries. He is an Active Member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of international scientific journals; Nutrition Bulletin-British Nutrition Foundation, the WRSTSD, in addition to Executive Editorship of the International Journal of Food Safety, Nutrition and Public Health. In 2006, he became a fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health (FRIPH).

Jamal Al-Zayer is an Associate Professor in Operation Research and Management. He received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests include resource utilisation and planning, knowledge management, economic development, energy planning and optimisation techniques. His articles have appeared in the Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Forecasting, Energy Journal and International Journal of Operations and Production Management.

Jerry Kolo is a Professor of Urban and Regional Planning in the School of Architecture and Design, American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. He held the same position from 1989–2006 at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Fort Lauderdale, FL. His areas of teaching and research specialisation are urban economic and land development, sustainable community development and planning theory. He earned a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. From 1993–2003, he was Director of The Center for Urban Redevelopment and Empowerment (CURE) at FAU. He has served on local and State Boards in Florida, and has an extensive track record in local government consulting and university-community partnerships. For his community outreach and public service accomplishments, he was awarded the State of Florida Governor’s Public Service Award in 1994, and the African-American Achiever’s Award in 1999.

Khaled Elmawazini holds a PhD in Economics from the University of East London, UK and his MA, from the University of Ottawa, Canada. He publishes many articles in refereed journals in the UK and the USA on technology transfer, foreign direct investment, productivity and income gaps, globalisation and developing countries, stock markets efficiency and panel data econometrics. His recent article on the efficiency of stock markets is published in Applied Economics Letters. Currently, he is working as an Assistant Professor at KIMEP and he is also a Research Fellow at the University of Ottawa. Before that, he worked for the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) as an Economist in the UNDP Debt Management Project.

Khalid A. Al-Madani received his Bachelors in Pharmacy from the University of King Saud (previously Riyadh University, KSA), Master of Public Health in Nutrition and Doctor of Science in Nutrition from Tulane University (USA). He was also Post Doctoral Fellow and Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Nutrition, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Tulane University (1984–1986). Since 1986, he joined Ministry of Health (KSA) as a Consultant Nutritionist. He is the Vice President of Saudi Society for Food and Nutrition, Chief Scientific Editor for the Nutrition and Health Newsletter (Egypt), Member of the Board of Directors and Steering Committee for the International Life Science Institute (Egypt), Member of the Advisory Board of the Bulletin of the National Nutrition Institute (Egypt) and Member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Food Safety, Nutrition, and Public Health (UK). He is the author or co-author of more than 25 Arabic books and over 30 publications in refereed journals in food, nutrition and health.

Khalil Kalantari is an Associate Professor at the University of Tehran, Iran. He holds a PhD in Regional Planning from Punjab University, India. He has published over 65 papers and is the author of several text books which have been well received by the postgraduate students at various universities in Iran. His main research areas are regional planning, environment and sustainable development and rural development.

Marc Martin serves as Associate Dean and Professor of Management and Marketing for SEEU’s College of Business Administration along with Consultant for Indiana University to assist with the development of SEEU’s Faculty, research, BA and MBA programmes. He continues to function as Consultant to Management. His interests involve strategy, global management and marketing research in developing and developed markets for a variety of organisations.

Michael Busler PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Rowan University. He has taught at a number of schools including Rutgers University, Drexel University, the University of Delaware and Pennsylvania State University. He has published articles in the fields of economic policy, market analysis, consumer behaviour and income tax policy. This research has been presented at refereed conferences in nine countries worldwide. He is a Member of the National Association of Business Economists (USA), the National Association of Forensic Economists (USA) and the American Economics Association.

Mohamed Salah Matoussi is a Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Management of Tunis. He was a Head of the Quantitative Methods Department from 1987 to 1996. He got his ‘Doctorat D'Etat’ of Economics at the University of Bourgogne (France) in 1980. His main interests are natural resources (water demand management), environment and sustainable development, applied microeconomics: fiscal reforms and poverty analysis in developing countries, contracts choices in agriculture: regional development implications.

Mounir Belloumi is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Politics of Sousse, Tunisia. He got his Doctorate in 2001 at the Faculty of Economics and Management of Tunis. His main interests are natural resources management mainly water demand management, environment and sustainable development, agriculture productivity and efficiency, climate change and energy demand management.

Najib Sahyoun is a MBA graduate from the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut. His emphasis is on Operations and Information Management. He has the US CPA and is a Member of the New Hampshire State Board of Accountancy. After working for four years at KPMG as an External Auditor, he joined Catholic Relief Services in February 2005 as a Regional Compliance Specialist for Europe and the Middle East region.

Pablo del Río works at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Toledo (Spain). He has worked and written extensively on climate change mitigation measures and renewable energy support schemes, particularly on emission trading and tradable green certificates schemes as well as on their respective interaction. His research also focuses on the factors influencing environmental technology change in firms. He has been involved in several EU and national projects and has published his work in international journals.

Paul Amuna is a Registered Public Health Nutritionist (RPHNutr), Fellow of the Royal Society of Health (FRSH) and a Consultant at International Nutrition and Public Health. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Greenwich. He actively collaborates with postgraduate centres at University of Sheffield, University of Westminster and the Vaal University of Technology in South Africa on nutrition and poverty alleviation. He has also previously taught at London South Bank University where he helped develop the nutrition programme. He holds a MMed Sc from the University of Sheffield and an MB & ChB (Medicine) from the Ghana Medical School. He was originator of the ‘Village Concept’ projects and is currently involved in health-sector capacity-building activities in developing countries. Research interests include development of nutrient-dense multimixes based on traditional foods for weaning, nutrition rehabilitation, maternal nutrition and HIV/AIDS patients.

Ravinder Rena has been working in Eritrea for the last one decade. He earned his PhD from the Department of Economics, Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, with an achievement of University Gold Medal (for the Best PhD candidates/thesis in the field of Economics/Commerce/Business Management). He has earned six degrees. He wrote eight books. His recent books are: Eritrean Economy: Problems and Prospects for Development; Financial Institutions in Eritrea published by the New African Press in December 2006. He has widely written in the areas of Economics of Education, Food Security, particularly, on Eritrea. He published his works in many national and international journals like African Development Review and Eritrean Studies Review. His areas of interest are economics of education and development economics. He is a Board Member of the WOMEN, Editorial Board Member of the Global Child Journal, and currently, working as Associate Professor of Economics, Eritrea Institute of Technology, The State of Eritrea.

Samar Ahmed is a graduate student in the Faculty of Health at the University of Brighton, UK. She is working for her Master of Science in Public Health and Management.

Sepehr Ghazinoory is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Bu-Ali Sina University, Hamedan, Iran. He received his BSc, MSc and PhD in Industrial Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). He has authored numerous books and articles about cleaner production, strategic planning and management of technology in Persian and English. He was also Consultant to the Iran presidential Technology Co-operation Office (TCO) for four years and Senior Consultant in formulating the Iran Nanotechnology National Initiative. Currently, he is a Consultant to different ministries and organisations.

Sermin Çam received her MS from Celal Bayar University in Manisa and is now a Research Assistant in the Department of Physics at Celal Bayar University, Arts and Sciences Faculty. Her research area is nuclear physics, focusing on the radionuclide in soil and water.

Shady Zeyadah is a Member of the Nutrition Society and Food Consultant at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (State of Qatar). Currently, he is involved in training of food inspectors as well as health educators. He is the head of National Food Standard Committee (NFSC) and Member of the National Food Committee (NFC) in Qatar. He is also a Member of the technical assistance projects for food safety and quality in Qatar (FAO). Shady hold a BSc in Biochemistry and MPH and DrPH from the High Institute of Public Health, University of Alexandria, Egypt. He was a Post-Doc Fellow to School of Biosciences, University of Westminster, UK.

Sherif H Kamel is an Associate Professor of MIS and the Director of Executive Education at The American University in Cairo. He was the Director of the Regional IT Institute (1992–2001) and Training Manager of the Information and Decision Support Center (1998–1992). In 1996, he co-founded the Internet Society of Egypt. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Cases on Information Technology and the Journal of Information Technology for Development. In 2005, he became a Member of the board of trustees of the Information Technology Institute, and in 2006, he became a Member of the board of trustees of the Sadat Academy for Management Sciences. He is a Member of the Executive Council of the Information Resources Management Association. He became an Eisenhower Fellow in 2005. He is a graduate of London School of Economics and Political Science and The American University in Cairo.

Soroush Ghazinoori is the Director of Technology, Policy Studies Group in the Department for Hi-tech Industries, Ministry of Industries and Mines and candidate for a PhD in Management at the School of Management, Allameh Tabataba’ee University, Tehran, Iran. He received his BSc and MSc in Industrial Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). His research interests are in innovation systems, technology assessment, technology policy, technology and manufacturing strategies and new technology-based firms.

Sundus Tewfik is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Department of Health and Human Sciences, London Metropolitan University. She was qualified as Biologist and Biomedical Scientist from Turkey in 1991. She holds a Masters in Applied Microbiology and PhD in Pharmacognosy from the University of Westminster. She is a ‘Chartered Scientist’ at the Science Council, UK. She has carried out numerous research projects on various aspects of herbal medicine and natural products characterisation. Her current research interests include effectiveness and pharmacovigilance of medicinal plants as well as their promising role as nutriceutical/pharmaceutical supplements in combating non-communicable diseases.

Tony Feghali is an Assistant Professor of Business Information and Decision Systems in the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut. His research interests involve the effect of technology on communities, business education and technology for development.

Ümran Hiçsönmez received her PhD from Ege University in Izmir and is now an Assistant Professor in Department of Chemistry at Celal Bayar University, Arts and Sciences Faculty. Her research area is physic-chemistry, focusing nuclear technology, uranium, thorium and rare elements.

Yasser Taha obtained his PhD in Economics from Kingston University in 2002. His doctoral research was on technology transfer in Egyptian car industry. At present, he is an Associate Professor in Economics at Bahrain University.
