35 - 50 | This study investigates the factors affecting the adoption of Electronic Commerce (EC) by container transport carriers in Hong Kong and their performance implications. Using data collected from a sample of container transport carriers in Hong Kong, we identify the factors that affect their adoption of EC, examine the levels of their EC adoption, and evaluate their performance outcomes. Our findings indicate that perceived management support, perceived technological aids for EC, perceived ease of use and usefulness of EC, and firm size are positively related to the level of EC adoption. Large container transport carriers tend to adopt EC at a higher levelV of sophistication. Our survey results show that container transport carriers in Hong Kong mainly adopt EC for simple usage, e-booking, and e-collaboration, whereas the adoption of EC for e-payment is very limited. We also found that container carriers' sales growth and overall performance are positively related to their level of EC adoption. Theoretical and practical implications of our findings on the adoption of EC by container transport carriers are discussed. Order a copy of this article |
