International Journal of the Digital Human
Special Issue on: "Digital Hand Modelling and its Applications"
Guest Editors:
Mitsunori Tada and Natsuki Miyata, National Institute of AdvancedIndustrial Science and Technology, Japan
Digital hand modelling and simulation are important in both academia and industry. A digital hand model can be used to conduct ergonomic assessments of industrial products, but a human hand has a complex structure. A human hand is composed of a link structure which has more than 25 degrees of freedom and is controlled by coordinated contraction of more than 27 muscles. Consequently, it is very difficult to model the anatomical structure of a hand, to measure and simulate the articulated motion of a hand, and to evaluate the usability of products, without the kinematic and kinetic calculations provided by a digital hand model.
The goal of this special issue is to present a comprehensive multi-disciplinary view of state-of-the-art digital hand modelling technologies, and of practical applications of digital hand modelling technologies in ergonomic assessments of industrial products. Researchers in academia and industry are cordially invited to submit their original work on anatomical hand structure modelling and articulated hand motion measurement and simulation, and results from virtual ergonomic assessments with digital hand models.
Subject CoverageSuitable topics include, but are not limited to:
- Hand modelling from anthropometric measurements
- Hand modelling from medical images
- Statistical analysis of hand geometry
- Hand motion measurements by MoCap systems
- Hand motion synthesis
- Statistical, kinematic or kinetic analysis of hand motions
- Application of digital hand models in ergonomics
- Application of digital hand models in biomechanics
