The ever-heavier burden on the environment and energy utilisation requires mobility to be cleaner and more efficient. In this context, many novel technologies such as high-efficient combustion, powertrain electrification, and alternative energy have been widely studied for the purpose of energy conservation and the emission reduction. And indeed, a lot of research advances in powertrains have been successfully applied in electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
However, since such an advanced powertrain integrates several complex subsystems, including power sources, energy sources, power electronics, and mechanical transmission, and strong uncertainties, hard nonlinearities, and multi-disciplinary interactions make the modelling, design, control and optimisation of vehicle powertrains even harder. Therefore, it becomes mandatory to consider the whole system in order to reach the best performance. And there are still a number of fundamental and critical issues in vehicle powertrain systems remained open.
This special issue will focus on the state-of-the-art research and development as well as future trends in modelling, design, control and optimisation of advanced powertrains for electric and hybrid electric vehicles. High-quality articles are invited that explore this growing area and provide vision for future research activities.
Subject CoverageSuitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Topology design and optimisation of electrified powertrain systems
- Dynamical modelling and simulation of electrified powertrains
- Energy management and advanced control of electrified powertrains
- Integration of electrified powertrain within ITS and/or smart grid
