The virtual reality (VR) market has made significant strides throughout 2016. New VR headsets debuted amid great consumer anticipation. At the same time, industry groups and conferences have brought developers, investors and content producers together, helping to further increase the buzz in this nascent space.

The objective of this special issue is to bring together research contributions on the design, specification and implementation of architectures, protocols, and algorithms for current and future virtual reality.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper has been completely re-written and if appropriate written permissions have been obtained from any copyright holders of the original paper).

All papers are refereed through a peer review process.
