Piston asymmetry vs. pipeline asymmetry in hydraulic cylinder dynamics

International Journal of Hydromechatronics (IJHM), Vol. 2, No. 3, 2019

Abstract: The paper provides a complement of the previous study in which the special non-dimensionalisation, as a powerful tool, comprehensively shows that the nonlinear displacement behaviour comes from the piston asymmetry of a nonlinear nominal model without any nonlinear friction. First, the nonlinear nominal model is updated with respect to the pipelines. Second, the special non-dimensionalisation is also updated. Third, as a main result, the piston asymmetry effect and the pipeline asymmetry effect are comprehensively compared analytically and numerically. In conclusion, the nominal model in the previous study is justified well in the sense that any pipeline design is difficult to cancel the nonlinear displacement behaviour due to the piston design.
