Abstract: Data nowadays is increasingly being born 'digital'. The use of data is not just to collect it, but also synthesise it in a manner which can be understood and interpreted by the organisation. An organisation needs to explore and adopt new methods and tools to collect, organise and analyse this data to facilitate their functioning and gain competitive advantage. The premise of business intelligence and analytics (BI&A) is to offer better quality of information for valuable decision making. Business intelligence and analytics is an expensive but a beneficial and efficacious set of tools and technology. The competence and efficiency of the organisation increases manifold by its implementation. The data used to write this paper is secondary in nature. Various websites, company white papers and reports, articles from sectorial magazines have been studied and analysed to give an overview of this emergent technology.
