Abstract: Vehicles equipped with automated manual transmissions (AMT) for gearshift control offer advantages in terms of high efficiency and improvement of driving comfort. The AMT system presented can automatically shift using three actuators added on a conventional manual transmission in accordance with a driver's operation and vehicle conditions. The vehicle used equipped with a clutch-by-wire, a throttle-by-wire, and two-axis shift actuator. The smoothness of the shift during driving depends on the synchronisation of all actuators involved. A mathematical model of the vehicle has been derived and simulated to model the vehicle performance with the proposed AMT system. The vehicle is tested on dynamometer to ascertain the performance of AMT system on the vehicle during launch, upshift and downshift. The AMT control system using fuzzy logic controller was designed, simulated and implemented. Fuzzy logic controller provides good performance characteristics compared to conventional manual transmission where better shift times and interruption is achieved.
