Abstract: To evaluate the health state of fuel cell under idling conditions, it is important to make remaining useful life (RUL) prediction. In this paper, three sets of fuel cell idling accelerated aging experiments with different cathode relative humidity (RH) were carried out, and the reference voltage and electrochemical active surface area (ECSA) in the first 200 hours were obtained. Three mathematical models of linear, exponential, and logarithmic were used in the particle filter framework to predict the reference voltage drop, and the RULs of three cells were calculated. After verification with measured voltage, conclusion was drawn; that the expectant lifetime is the longest under 75% cathode RH. Both too low and too high RH will accelerate the degradation. This conclusion was further verified by the polarisation curve and ECSA data. Finally, a reasonable explanation for different degradation speeds caused by different cathode RH from perspective of mechanism was proposed.
