Supplier selection and order allocation in purchasing and supply management: a systematic literature review
by Tobias Rösner
International Journal of Procurement Management (IJPM), Vol. 16, No. 1, 2023

Abstract: Supplier selection and order allocation are challenging decision-making problems. In the past, these problems have already been the subject of great interest. Both decision-making methods and the requirement profile in strategically complex purchasing and supply management have developed over time. In previous years, review papers and research articles have been published on the supplier selection and order allocation problem. This paper extends the research framework by presenting a systematic literature review of 171 documents from 2018 to 2020. In the analytical framework, papers are explored according to their process stage orientation and technique orientation. Also, recent findings on the application of relevant decision criteria are presented. Furthermore, a mapping concerning model characteristics is realised. An analysis of the number of suppliers, number of criteria, number of items, number of periods, number of objectives and number of decision-makers is provided. This work also recommends future research directions and eases knowledge acquisition.
