Second career - availability and aspirations of ex-servicemen

Abstract: Human resources, the warrior who is the sentinel of a country's pride because of his strength, determination and adaptation to dynamics of modern warfare. Individuals join the defence forces at their own will, knowing completely well that they will exit at an early age. A soldier completes his terms of engagement between the ages of 35 to 50, whereas employees in civil domain, generally retire at the age of 58. Since the soldiers retire at an early age, there emerges a requirement for armed forces personnel to seek second profession post retirement. This pool of trained and disciplined manpower is a national asset, but it is seen that large number of our ESM are not able to take up appropriate second career. This study is pointed on contriving strategies and principles to recognise the developing desire of veterans for a second career and assess the aspirations from the second career.
