Abstract: This paper presents a review of the literature on the theory of effectuation and the internationalisation of small and medium-sized enterprises. Bibliometric analysis of 30 articles collected from the Web of Science database was performed. Using Bibexcel, VOSviewer, Pajek and Tree of Science to analyse the data, mathematical and statistical methods were applied to classify the literature and identify its structure and key trends. The results of the bibliometric analysis are based on evaluation of the most influential authors, articles and journals. The impact of the articles was evaluated, and the structure of the research field was identified. To test the robustness of the results, we also ran a bibliometric analysis of 25 articles collected from Scopus database. This analysis revealed substantial similarities that allow us to identify the conceptual structure of this research field. The results can be used to support further research in this area.
