Abstract: Liquid fuels are important sources to meet the existing energy demand. Biodiesel is a promising alternative fuel for the energy security and environmental benefits. This work focuses on the development of biodiesel fuel from the waste cooking oil. Its huge abundance can fulfil the biodiesel mission of India. In this research, single-stage base catalyst transesterification was employed for biodiesel production with ASTM standard. Later, the process parameters and properties such as viscosity, calorific value, flash point and pour point were optimised using response surface methodology, whereas the molar ratio, catalyst concentration, reaction time, agitation speed, and reaction temperature were considered as process parameters. After the optimisation results, confirmation trials have been conducted and the yield was achieved at 98.95%. At the same time, properties were calculated such as pour point (-2.12°C), flash point (169.25°C), calorific value (45.68 MJ/kg), and viscosity (5.48 cSt).
