Abstract: This paper aims to evaluate the sustainable leadership factors and their relation to the intention to remain in the organisation. The research analysed 324 interviews with employees from southern Brazil through quantitative techniques, such as linear regression, factorial analysis, and variance analysis. The study revealed that the economic dimension explains 27.60% of the leadership for sustainability, while social and environmental dimensions explain 25.54% and 20.27 %, respectively. The research concludes that: i) human resource policies should be proposed from the leadership for sustainability perspective; ii) sustainability-focused company programs and actions should be better communicated to employees; and iii) organisations should invest more in sustainability programs and efforts for the internal public, as a strategy to talent retention. Finally, the study provides relevant evidence for social researchers and human resource managers by distinguishing factors that influence talent retention and recommending elements for a sustainable human resource management debate.
