Abstract: In this study, a novel 'block-on-disk' test rig is proposed to investigate the wear behaviour of three-body tribosystem under high loads with sandy abrasive. The test rig has managed to maintain three-body contact during experiments. With the help of the test rig, wear behaviour, including wear intensity and wear depth, is analysed in running-in stage and steady stage. It is shown that wear intensity is almost independent of velocity and sliding distance in the steady stage. Whereas, in the running-in stage, wear behaviour is dependent on material properties, initial roughness, normal force and sliding distance. These results are necessary to validate simulations for the overall wear process.
