Abstract: The connection between waste management and global warming is a well-established concept. The management of waste is crucial for every individual and business. Waste disposals have huge environmental effects and it causes serious anomalies. Some waste eventually decays and some do not. However, in the process of decomposition, it may smell or produce methane gas, which is volatile and adds to greenhouse gas emissions. The waste generation due to post-harvest losses in fruits and vegetables is a huge problem. The present paper addresses the problem of wastage in fruits and vegetables, particularly the tomato, onion, and potato (TOP) crops. The in-depth analysis of literature unfolds the current challenges and opportunities in the field. A discussion of the emerging problem to tackle the wastage of fruits and vegetables is discussed. The study gives policy recommendations to enhance value addition and the overall supply chain.
