A hybrid instruction design of a database course: from concept to implementation

Abstract: The paper employs two instruction approaches to design and deliver a database course at the undergraduate level. It presents a novel way to combine constructivist instruction ideas with the objectivist instruction methods. The paper uses the idea of intermediate deliverable-feedback on team projects to provide appropriate guidance in bringing about deeper learning and creation of knowledge by students. We discuss the database course design and its delivery. The course evaluation by students was positive.
