Abstract: In this paper, we present a longitudinal case study of a power sector start-up in India. Using the case as a starting point, we carefully analyse and explore the opportunities and challenges of implementing a small hydro power project in India. Using this case study, we identify the key success factors for a company to succeed in this sector. Based on first-hand observation of the progress of this project over a period of two years, this study draws important lessons for entrepreneurs as well as policy planners for the promotion of entrepreneurship in emerging markets in general. Recognising the limitations of inferences based on a single case study, we offer suggestions on how future research could validate the findings of this study using broader survey-based methodologies.
