Abstract: This paper presents the modelling of cutting force and cutting temperature in the high-speed dry gear hobbing, based on hobbing machining principles, cutting mechanics and heat transfer theory, and derives out the calculation method of cutting force and cutting temperature on the condition of the high-speed dry gear hobbing. The paper analyses the cutting force and cutting temperature in high-speed dry gear hobbing, the influence relationship from key factors and changing rules of the cutting parameters, cutting force and cutting temperature in the process of the high-speed dry gear hobbing. Furthermore, the paper compares the results from the high-speed dry gear hobbing trials, which are thus used to verify the models as developed. The research establishes theoretical basis and experimental foundation for further studying the high-speed dry gear hobbing and exploring intrinsic cutting mechanism such as cutting force, cutting temperature and machining dynamics, etc.
