International Journal of Global Warming (IJGW), Vol. 4, No. 1, 2012

Abstract: As the youngest and largest provincial-level municipality in China, Chongqing has been rapidly urbanising during the last decade, but also encountered bottlenecks as other developed cities have experienced. In order to investigate the environmental sustainability of the ecological economic system in Chongqing, an emergy analysis was performed to calculate a number of important indicators. A comparison with similar emergy indicators of other countries was carried out to determine the sustainability and emergy usage of Chongqing. Based on the official statistical datasets, some strategic suggestions were given to help Chongqing achieve a sustainable development in the future.
