Abstract: In this paper, a three dimensional finite element model of three slabs has been developed for structural evaluation of ultra-thin whitetopping (UTW). In this 3D finite element modelling, UTW of 100 mm thick overlay on 100 mm thick hot mix asphalt (HMA) pavement resting on a well compacted subgrade has been developed. Wheel loading has been applied on the UTW and linear static analysis has been carried out using 'ANSYS' software. Stresses and deflections at three critical positions in UTW, i.e., at interior, corner and edge have been obtained with this model. The deflections obtained from this model have been compared with results of Benkelman beam deflection (BBD) test conducted on top surface of UTW. Also, stresses and deflections obtained from this model have been compared with the theoretical values obtained from Westergaard's modified equations given by Ioannides et al. (1985).
